Our Society’s aim is to promote research and teaching in philosophy of education. PESA has become a global organisation, with our members now hailing not only from our founding countries, Australia and New Zealand, but also Asia, Europe and North and South America. PESA is proud to offer members an inclusive approach to philosophy of education – an approach that engages with a wide range of ideas, theories and people in our challenging contemporary globalised world. We have established an Indigenous Philosophy Group and a Women in Philosophy Group and provide strong support for post-graduates.
PESA’s journal Educational Philosophy and Theory published by Taylor & Francis/ Routledge is a world leader in philosophy of education, now producing 14 issues a year and incorporating Access and several special issues including one with abstracts in Chinese. We have established an Editorial Development Group to develop editorial skills and an Editors Collective.
Our annual PESA conference has become well know as a supportive and friendly environment for people with wide levels of expertise, from post-graduates to world-rated scholars, to present papers and network with kindred spirits. The conference has been held in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Taiwan and Fiji. In 2017 it will be in Newcastle. Details will soon be on our website.
PESA provides many benefits to members. It sponsors other conferences, symposia and seminars relevant to the Society’s objectives. We provide Annual Book Awards. The PESA Doctoral Scholarship is highly sought after by post-graduate students who also benefit from subsidies for paper presentations at our annual conference. PESA members are also active in promoting and demonstrating the importance of philosophy of education for teachers and other educational professionals. The PESA Executive is always keen to hear from members. We look forward to working with you as we continue building our Society in the years ahead.
