From the airport, most people prefer to take the Airport Express train, which travels to Central/Hong Kong Station in 24 minutes every 10-12 minutes, from 5:54am-00:48am. From Hong Kong Station, passengers can take the complimentary shuttle bus to Western District hotels, including Island Pacific Hotel (Bus A1). Information is available at the airport and at Hong Kong Station as needed. Tickets cost HK$115 (AUD$21) and can be purchased by cash or credit card at the airport or Hong Kong Station Airport Express service counters. Guests of Hotel Jen may take the Vigor Airport Shuttle Services directly from the airport to the hotel (check with the hotel for information). Citybus Cityflyer buses (A10) travel from the airport to the Western District in about 45 minutes, and cost around HK$50 (AUD$9).
From the airport, private taxis cost about HK$350 (AUD$65). From Hong Kong Station, a taxi to Western District will cost HK$30-50 (AUD$5-10). Taxis are safe, clean, and reliable. There is no tipping expected. However, there is an extra fee for luggage, and it is highly recommended that passengers have the name and address of their destination written in Chinese to pass to the driver to ensure best service.
With the exception of the Airport Express train, most taxis and all public transportation require cash payment. In general, all transportation options in Hong Kong are equally good, as they are inexpensive, safe, well-organised, and clean. It is highly recommended to carry cash in Hong Kong, as credit cards may not be accepted in all businesses, or for making small transactions. A variety of ATMs and currency exchange services can be found in the Hong Kong International Airport and around town.
